Foundations in Health Literacy for Educators

Live Zoom training for health care educators who want to include health literacy in teaching and learning activities.

Prepare future health professionals to communicate clearly

Health care educators play an important role in preparing future professionals to communicate clearly, support patient understanding, and improve patient experience. This live training introduces the prioritized health literacy competencies from Coleman and colleagues and provides practical guidance for incorporating them into existing teaching activities, clinical education, coursework, and other learning experiences.

Training Details

This live Zoom training will be held July 21, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The cost is $55 per participant, or $45 each when two or more register from the same department.

Who Should Attend

This training is intended for health care educators, faculty, clinical instructors, curriculum leaders, and others involved in teaching students or trainees in health professions programs.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the impact of health literacy on health care delivery, including its effects on patients, providers, and health care systems.
  • Describe the prioritized health literacy competencies (PHLCs).
  • Identify areas within their own educational practice where prioritized health literacy competencies can be incorporated, highlighted, and taught.

This training will be led by UAMS faculty and staff with experience in health literacy, health professions education, simulation, clinical skills training, interprofessional education, and curriculum development.
