Jacob Cooper is a plain language writer at the UAMS Center for Health Literacy. With a commitment to making health information more accessible, Jacob specializes in creating and refining plain language health materials for patients and the public. He also facilitates training on plain language to support the educational efforts at UAMS and beyond.
Jacob began his writing career as a newspaper staff writer, where he practiced communicating complex information clearly and effectively. This experience led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English from Arkansas State University and a master’s degree in English from Henderson State University and transition into education. For over a decade, Jacob worked in various roles in higher education, both in and out of the classroom, developing his skills in communication and education.
Today, Jacob brings these experiences to his work in health literacy. In addition to his primary role, Jacob is actively researching ways to use artificial intelligence (AI) to improve communication with patients and the public, exploring how emerging technologies can help make health information more accessible.
Outside of work, Jacob is an avid reader, hiker, and traveler, seeking new experiences and challenges.
