Mission
The mission of the UAMS Center for Health Literacy (CHL) is to improve the health of individuals and populations by making health information easy to understand and use.
Vision
With improved health communication, patients and communities are engaged in their health in ways that support better care, better outcomes, and reduced health care costs.
Values
Our team is committed to upholding these core values as we work with one another and our partners and clients to improve health:
- Integrity and excellence: We follow evidence-based practices to ensure high-quality work. We communicate clear and accurate information to teammates and partners. We are good stewards of time and resources, investing both toward the fulfillment of our mission.
- Respect for colleagues, partners, students, and the public: We listen and aim to understand what is important to others. We anticipate needs and set others up for success. We provide quality educational products to help the public make autonomous and informed decisions about health. We are courteous and responsive.
- Diversity and Inclusion: We consider and address the unique needs of those who may read our health materials. We advance health equity by helping others with using and advocating for inclusive language.
- Commitment to health: We contribute to personal and population health across the dimensions of wellness (physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, social, and intellectual). We strive for optimal wellness in our own lives and support teammates in doing so. We focus our work on improving health through understandable and actionable health instructions.
- Individuality and Teamwork: We seek to understand the strengths of our teammates and partners. We recognize that we do our best work when we combine the strengths of teammates, content experts, and community members. We support teammates in their pursuit of ongoing professional development that contributes to our mission.
