October is Health Literacy Month!
Health Literacy Month is a time for healthcare organizations and professionals to promote the importance of health information that is easy to understand and use. October was designated as Health Literacy Month in 1999 and continues to be a yearly, worldwide, awareness-raising event.
During October, the UAMS Center for Health Literacy (CHL) will be celebrating Health Literacy Month through several media events and the third annual #plainpledge® challenge. The UAMS CHL encourages all health care professionals to take the pledge to stop using jargon and instead use words people understand the first time they hear or read them.
